In November, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations, the following health screenings will be conducted at the Greenwood School:  

• Kindergarten:  hearing 
• Grade 1:  vision, hearing, and BMI (height & weight)
• Grades 2 & 3:  vision and hearing 
• Grade 4:  vision and BMI (height & weight)

Vision and hearing screening tests done at school are not diagnostic in nature.  They are done simply to indicate students who may need further evaluation.  Because any child who does not pass the initial screening is retested, you will not be notified until after the second screening if your child does not pass.  Even if your child passes the school screenings, if you have any concerns, you should follow up with your child’s physician.

If you choose not to have your child participate in the BMI (height and weight) screening, please notify school nurse Mary Doherty in writing by November 6th.
