From the Principal: 10/13/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Tuesday!  I hope that everyone had a chance to enjoy the long weekend and get recharged for the week ahead. The Greenwood staff has been working double- and triple-time to create and recreate experiences that will benefit all children socially and academically, whether synchronous, asynchronous, in-person, or virtual, and so I’d like to take this moment to remind us all to continue with the “patience, grace, flexibility” attitude that has successfully brought us to this point.  Even though we have reached mid-October, it was only 17 school days ago that we entered Phase 2 of the WPS Reopening Plan.  We continue to examine, grow, and develop our models each and every day to help all learners succeed, and we are appreciative of the support from our Greenwood families as we work together during this unusual start to the school year.

Communication/Email Reminder

With the AM/PM cohort model, classroom teachers have students in front of them during both the morning and afternoon sessions.  This means that if you send an email to your child’s teacher with a question during the asynchronous learning time , the teacher will likely not have an opportunity to read your message until the in-person cohort session ends and may not be able to respond until even later.  Please keep this in mind for any time-sensitive messages.

Grab & Go Lunches

Just a reminder that it’s not too late for your child to participate in the Grab & Go lunch program at Greenwood!  If you would like your child to get one of these lunches, please fill out this survey to let us know so we can try and have the right number of lunches on hand.  AM cohort students will bring their lunch home with them.  PM cohort students will have the opportunity to eat the Grab & Go lunch as their afternoon snack.

STEM Week Update

Our WPS math and science coordinators have some great plans in store for STEM Week, which is coming right up October 19th through 23rd!  There are engaging, hands-on activity sessions planned for all grade levels throughout the week during both asynchronous learning blocks - more details can be found at the STEM Week website. The deadline to register is Wednesday, October 14th, so check it out!

Grades 3 & 4 - Additional iReady Information

Our STEM Curriculum Coordinator, Valerie Drinan, has provided some additional information related to the iReady diagnostic that is scheduled for 3rd and 4th graders during their asynchronous learning time on Tuesday, October 27th.  Please take a moment to review this iReady Q & A and/or the iReady Family Information Session Recording for updates.

ST Math Information for Grades K-4

There have been some questions floating around about the ST Math program and its role in our current math structure.  While there will be an information session during the upcoming Parent University to specifically delve into ST Math, Valerie Drinan has provided this ST Math Introduction Letter as a way to share information with families in the meantime.  Please feel free to reach out with any questions!

Technology Support

Please email the WPS Tech Department at technology@wpsk12.org if your child is in need of technology support while at home.
