From the Principal: Nov 19

Dear Greenwood Families,

Where does the time go? Wasn’t it just yesterday that we were starting a new school year and complaining about the heat? Now many of us have visions of turkeys dancing in our heads, and we’ve even experienced our first snow event of the winter! Just a hunch...many families will be very busy this weekend with preparations for the Thanksgiving holiday next week, whether your plan is to cook a big meal, host guests, or travel to visit family and friends. Whatever it is that you have planned for the upcoming days off, we hope that it involves fun, food, family, and friends (in any order)!

Learn Anywhere Elementary “Dry Run”

You should have received an email last Thursday from Assistant Superintendent Kara Mauro about the dry run for our Learn Anywhere program. The goal of the trial on Tuesday, November 20 is to determine if students/families are able to access teaching assignments effectively. A survey will be sent out following the dry run to solicit feedback about the technical aspects of the program.

Early Release Wednesday, 11/21/18

School will be dismissed at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday for the Thanksgiving break. Lunches will NOT be served on that day.

2019 MCAS Dates

While springtime seems a little far away at the moment, it is important for everyone to have the dates for MCAS testing in grades 3 and 4 well in advance. We understand that some absences are unavoidable, but we do ask that everyone be mindful of the testing dates when making appointments, as there is limited time for makeup testing. Thank you for your attention to this!

Greenwood School Council Summary

The first meeting of the Greenwood School Council was on Thursday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. Members present were Rochelle Rubino (parent), Liz Parsons (parent), Janine Campbell (4th grade teacher), and Tiffany Back (principal). The group reviewed meeting norms and the purpose of School Council, and then dove into a review of the Greenwood School Improvement Plan draft. We also discussed what other topics the Council would like to work on this year and decided to focus on home-school communication and homework. More information will be coming after our next meeting on January 8, 2019!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break!
