From the Principal: Sept 10

Dear Greenwood Families,
And just like that, we’re off and running for the 2018-2019 school year! All of our Greenwood students and staff were real troopers on Thursday and powered through the extreme heat on the first day with big smiles that certainly showed their excitement to be officially “back to school” once again. The cooler temperatures on Friday may have brought even bigger smiles to everyone’s faces though...bring on fall!

With the start of a new year, we also have a few safety reminders for arrival and dismissal. Please make sure that anyone who cares for your children knows about these important procedures.

  • Please do not drive into and/or park in the staff parking lot during morning and afternoon pick up. We have many children walking to and from the playground during this time and ask parents to park on the street behind or in front of the school if you are going to walk and wait with your child.
  • If you need to cross the street, please walk students to the crossing guards located at both the front and back of the school. Walking in between cars to cross the street is very dangerous, and our crossing guards are here specifically to help keep everyone safe.
  • The final item is regarding adults waiting on the playground while students enter or leave the building each day. All adults who are dropping off or picking up should stand behind the first basketball hoop. This makes the area where students are standing less crowded, allowing staff members on duty to see all students and more easily identify which students are still waiting for adults at the end of the day.

Thank you for your attention and help with this - we greatly appreciate it!

Did your child participate in the summer reading program at the Beebe Library? Evidently a LOT of Greenwood children did, because when the librarians figured out how many children from each school participated, Greenwood had the second largest number of kids who took part! It’s so exciting to hear about the joy of reading extending outside of the school walls!

To continue our reading theme, Ms. Holland, our reading specialist, is looking for some volunteers to help her with a couple of book projects. Our Kindergarten summer reading book bags are coming back (note to 1st grade parents...please send the black-and-white books back to school if you haven’t yet), and there are a lot of books that need to be organized! If you can help out during the school day at all, please send Ms. Holland an e-mail and let her know. We all thank you in advance for your time!

Once again, please note that Greenwood’s Back-to-School Night will be held on Tuesday, September 25th. This is an opportunity for the adults to come and meet the classroom teachers and specialists and to learn about classroom expectations and grade level curriculum. It will begin at 6:30 pm. More specific information to follow in the coming weeks.

Communication is very important to us. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions or concerns throughout the year. All staff e-mail addresses are listed on the “Staff Directory” section of the Greenwood School website. Please know it can be very challenging for staff members to access e-mail during the school day, so please call the office with any time-sensitive messages.

Thank you for everything you do to support your children’s learning both inside and outside of school!
Let’s have a great week,
Tiffany Back
