From the Principal: 10/21/19

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  Now that the leaves are well on their way to full fall foliage mode, it’s important to remember that the milder temperatures are on their way out and we need to make sure students are dressed appropriately for spending time outdoors in the morning before school and at lunch recess.  The bright sunshine can be very deceptive on a brisk fall day!

Evacuation Walk Today

Last Thursday, all Greenwood families received a School Messenger email about rescheduling the evacuation walk to Monday, October 21st.  All children and staff will practice exiting the school and walking to our designated off-site location, the Most Blessed Sacrament Church.  A little exercise to start a new week!

October Safety Month Continues

We have two more required safety practices scheduled for this month.  The first is a bus evacuation practice on Tuesday, October 22nd. This is required in order to be prepared for any school field trips during the year.  For this drill, the bus parks next to the school and students practice getting on the bus, learn about how to sit and ride safely, and practice exiting the bus.  Just in case you’re wondering...the bus doesn’t go anywhere during this practice! We will also practice our ALICE drill on Tuesday, October 29th at 9:00am with the help of our School Resource Officers, Kelley Tobyne and Jason Skillings.  An ALICE drill has us practice what to do to stay safe if someone enters Greenwood School who should not be here. For elementary students, the focus is on staying safe and following teacher directions as to whether to stay inside the classroom or evacuate the building.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s teacher.

Greenwood School Council

Every school in Massachusetts is required, by statute, to have a school council made up of parents and teachers that serves as an advisory board to the principal. Meetings are open and publicized so that any interested parties are able to attend. This year’s School Council representatives are Jeanine Campbell (4th grade teacher), Liz Parsons (parent), and Heather McCarthy (parent). The first meeting of the Greenwood School Council is on Thursday, October 24th at 7:45am. A meeting summary will be shared in Gator Tales after each meeting.

Halloween Parade

On Thursday, October 31st, our students in grades K-2 will participate in a Halloween parade around the outside of Greenwood School at 2:30pm. Families are welcome to drop by and see the fun before dismissal that day!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning—let’s have a great week!
