From the Principal: 1/13/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone enjoyed the unseasonably warm weather this weekend, even if it did come with some rain.  The long-time New Englanders among us know that we’re barely scraping the surface of winter, and that there is sure to be plenty of snow ahead of us.  Let’s enjoy the unsalted roads while we can!

Early Release This Wednesday

Wednesday, January 15th is an early release day for our students.  Lunch will be served at school before we dismiss at 11:55am.

All-School Meeting This Thursday

On Thursday, January 16th, we will have our next All-School Meeting to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. before the holiday on the 20th.  Members of the 4th Grade Leadership Team will emcee and share during the meeting. We will start at 8:50am and be done by 9:25am.

No School & MLK Celebration — Monday, January 20th

Schools will be closed next Monday, January 20th in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday.

If your family is around that day, the Wakefield Human Rights Commission is holding a town celebration in honor of Dr. King at the Galvin Middle School from 10:00-11:00am.  The theme this year is “Anybody Can Serve.” This year’s keynote speaker is Milly Arbaje-Thomas, CEO of METCO, Inc.  In addition to artwork, music, poetry, and speakers, the Commission will also present its 3rd annual MLK Service awards to 3 recipients — a Wakefield youth, adult and business/organization who have made a difference in the Wakefield Community.  After the event, there will be a service project opportunity to put together cold-weather care packages.  It will be a great event!

Visitor Badges

Thanks to O'Connor Studios, our school picture vendor, we have brand-new Greenwood visitor badges for volunteers to wear while helping out in the building!  It is important that all visitors to the building stop in the main office and sign in as part of our safety procedures.  The badge serves as a signal to others in the building that you have been checked in.  We appreciate your cooperation!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning — let’s have a great week!
