From the Principal: 6/6/22

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  In case you missed it on Greenwood’s social media, we had a few visitors on Friday afternoon…

It was very exciting for both the seniors and our current Gators to celebrate together!  (Even though more than a few kids found it hard to believe that these “big kids” once came to school at Greenwood.)  How wonderful that we’re able to bring back these events and traditions once again!

Early Release - Wednesday, June 8th

Our next early release day for students is on Wednesday, June 8th.  All students will be dismissed at 11:55am in order for WPS staff to have professional development sessions in the afternoon.  Please note: there will be a scheduled lunch block for students prior to dismissal.

Lost & Found

Is your child missing a coat?  A sweatshirt?  Or maybe even three of them?  Our Greenwood lost & found is overflowing with unclaimed clothing, and we really want to reunite as many items as possible with their rightful owners before the end of the school year.  If you’d like to come and take a peek, please contact Ms. Paiva to arrange a time.  Also, on Friday, June 10th we will have tables set up out back at both arrival and dismissal to display items.  Once school is out for the summer, all remaining items will be donated.

Read and Save Summer Adventure Program

Wakefield Co- operative Bank is pleased to bring our popular Read and Save SUMMER ADVENTURE  program to the local schools and libraries again for the fourth year in a row.

Last year, many K-12 students from Melrose, Wakefield and Lynnfield participated in this fun and rewarding program, designed to promote summer reading and provide a building block  for children to save.

Students who satisfactorily meet Read and Save’s simple rules will receive $5 for each book read this summer (up to $25) and we’ll be giving away a BANK ON FAMILY NIGHT gift basket at the end of the program to one lucky participant! For important program details, click on the linked flyer or visit www.wakefieldcoop.com/readsave.

Health Reminder

We are still seeing an uptick in COVID cases throughout the district, and while most people seem to be experiencing mild symptoms, it is so important for everyone to maintain vigilance in order to keep school operating as smoothly as possible.  While masking remains optional, we have noticed an increase in families choosing to do so during the school day.  Please know that masking is always encouraged and supported as a mitigation strategy.  As always, you should keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.0 or higher, chills, or shaking chills

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Muscle aches or body aches

  • Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)

  • Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Headache, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms

If a positive case of COVID is identified in your child’s classroom, you will receive a letter via School Messenger to let you know.  Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
