From the Principal: 11/9/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  So over a three-week span of writing letters for Gator Tales, we’ve experienced fall, winter, and now quasi-summer.  My conclusion?  Maybe I just need to stop talking about the weather!  That being said, it’s been nice to temper the pain of earlier sunsets with warmer temperatures, even if we know it can’t last for long...

No School - Wednesday, November 11th

Just a reminder that there is no school for students or staff on Wednesday, November 11th due to the Veterans Day holiday.

School Spirit Day - Friday, November 13th

Even though “Fall Fun Friday” was more like “Wacky Winter Friday,” it was great to see Greenwood having a good time showing their spirit by dressing up!  So we decided to have our 4th grade Gators vote on another special theme day for this Friday, November 13th.  The results are in, and we will have PAJAMA DAY at Greenwood this Friday!  Now I just have to find my slippers...

Grades 3 & 4 - iReady Diagnostic Update

If your child is not quite finished with the iReady diagnostic, you should have received an email from me on Friday afternoon with details about finishing during asynchronous learning time on Thursday, November 12th.  If you did not receive a note and believe that you should have, please reach out.

Day Before Thanksgiving - Wednesday, November 25th

The day before Thanksgiving is an early release day, which means an adjustment to the schedule to ensure that both AM and PM cohorts have an opportunity to see their teachers that day.

  • AM & PM cohorts will attend Morning Meeting together from 8:25-8:55am on Wednesday, November 25th.  (Hybrid model - full remote will receive a separate communication)

  • Students will have asynchronous work to complete during the morning.

  • There will be no specialist classes this day.

  • The elementary school day ends at 11:30am.

We appreciate your flexibility!

Snacks & Reusable Containers

When we first started our hybrid model, we asked families to send in snacks in disposable packaging in order to simplify our outdoor mask/snack breaks.  As we’ve gotten into a groove with our system, we are finding that students are able to manage reusable containers while traveling from the classroom to their designated break area and back.  So if you’d like to make that change and were waiting for the green light to do so, here it is!

Specialist Schedule Switch Information

It’s a little ways off, but there were a couple of questions on Curriculum Night and survey responses about specialists and whether students would have Art or Music at some point this year.  In order to make our hybrid model work, the “small schools” each have two specialists for half the school year, with students seeing that specialist two times per week.  For Greenwood, that meant all students would have only Library/Media and PE to start the school year.  At the halfway point of the school year, we will “switch” with other schools and have Art and Music for the second half of the school year, using the same specialist schedule that is currently in place.  The “specialist switch” is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 1st.  We will definitely update you again closer to that date!

Technology Support

Please email the WPS Tech Department at technology@wpsk12.org if your child is in need of technology support while at home.

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.  Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
