From the Principal: Jan 14

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday! It may be cold, but at least we haven’t gotten into much snow yet! My notes seem a little short this week, but that’s probably okay. Everyone is so busy, especially with trying to avoid whatever bugs have been going around lately. If you didn’t receive the email message on Friday from Mrs. Doherty, our school nurse, click here to read her message. She shared some important information about how to help avoid the spread of illnesses, and we want Greenwood to be the healthiest place it can be!

Greenwood School Council Meeting Summary

On Thursday evening, the Greenwood School Council met to talk about two topics near and dear to the hearts of all who interact with elementary schools: homework and communication. We read a few articles and research studies about the positive and negative effects of homework - there are many strong feelings on both sides of the issue! The Council thought is would be helpful to gather feedback from our own community and will be developing surveys for staff and families about the current reality of homework at Greenwood. One thing that was clear is that is is extremely important to make sure that everyone is on the same page about the “whats” and “whys” behind homework. The survey will also allow us to find out some information about how our current communication strategies are working for everyone. Thank you to Jeanine Campbell, Elizabeth Parsons, and Rochelle Rubino for your roles on the Council!

All-School Meeting on Friday

Our 4th graders will be hosting the Greenwood All School Meeting on Friday, January 18th at 9:00am. Come and hear all about what they’ve learned about the topic of perseverance!

No School - Monday, January 21st

Schools will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday. If your family is around that day, the Wakefield Human Rights Commission is holding a town celebration in honor of Dr. King at the Galvin Middle School from 10 to 11 a.m. The theme this year is civic participation. In addition to artwork, music, poetry, and speakers, the Commission will also present its 3rd annual MLK Service awards to 3 recipients - a Wakefield youth, adult, and business/organization who have made a difference in the Wakefield Community.

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
