From the Principal: 3/18/19

Dear Greenwood Families,

Believe it or not, we’re already halfway through the month of March! It’s always a little funny at this time of year to try and reconcile the sight of not-yet-melted piles of snow with temperatures mild enough for children and adults alike to shed their coats as soon as they walk out the door. It can make figuring out what to wear in the morning somewhat challenging! But that’s okay...everyone here at Greenwood is more than ready for the shift toward spring and the promise of warm, sunny days ahead.

Early Release Day

Just a reminder that Wednesday, 3/20 is an early release day for students. Lunch will be served at school before we dismiss at 11:55am.

Greenwood Authorfest

We knew Authorfest was getting close when we saw the big green banner swinging from the ceiling...and now the week is finally here! Everyone here is excited to welcome authors Marty Kelley, Scott Magoon, Erin Dionne, and Mark Peter Hughes to Greenwood for classroom visits. This is such an important opportunity for children to connect with adults who have made writing their life’s work - our little authors can learn so much from them! Kudos to the Greenwood PTO for the work they’ve done all year long to make this experience happen!

Sharing the Spirit of Literacy

The 4th grade student council has planned some “happenings” to make sure all of Greenwood is caught up in the celebration of reading and writing all week long. While most of them are surprises that will happen here at school, I wanted to let you know that we are asking everyone, if they can, to bring in a favorite book on Thursday, March 21st. Student Council will make a reminder announcement at school on Wednesday, but I know some advance notice is always helpful!

Wakefield Parent University

If you haven’t yet signed up for Wakefield Parent University, now is the time! This free half-day conference for parents and caregivers of students pre-K through high school on Saturday, March 23rd has something for everyone. There is even free childcare provided by Wakefield Academy for kids ages 4-13...but the deadline to sign up for Kid Camp is today, Monday, March 18th. Don’t miss out!

Greenwood School Council Meeting Summary

Last Tuesday, the Greenwood School Council met to take an initial look at the results from the surveys (staff and family) about homework. We were thrilled with the response - all classroom teachers and over 110 family responses were recorded. That’s a lot of data to examine! The Council began by identifying common themes and trends, as well as formulating questions raised by the information. Next steps will include sharing the findings, developing a common understanding of the role and purpose of homework, and examining our communication methods to ensure that all community members are kept in the loop. It’s a big task, but an important one. Thank you to Jeanine Campbell, Elizabeth Parsons, and Rochelle Rubino for your continued roles on the Council!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
