From the Principal: 4/13/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

I hope that everyone continues to be healthy and safe as we begin a new week.  In week #5, some of you may feel like you’re developing a rhythm, while others may be finding new challenges popping up.  My message to you all remains the same: everyone is doing the best they can in uncertain times, and we all need to remember to be kind to each other.  The Greenwood community has been wonderful in its supportiveness, which is no surprise at all. And it is greatly appreciated! For those families who celebrate Easter or Passover, even though things may look very different this year, hopefully you were able to connect with family and friends in some way.  (The Zoom call with my family was highly entertaining...once we got everyone unmuted!) As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need support.

Superintendent’s Message—April Break

On Friday, 4/10, a message was sent out from Superintendent Doug Lyons and Assistant Superintendent Kara Mauro to let the community know that Wakefield will be observing the April break as scheduled on the 2019-2020 calendar.  Here is a link to the message, for your reference.  Once again, if you are not receiving messages from the Wakefield Public Schools please let me know so that we can get you on the list.

Bring a Smile to Melrose/Wakefield Hospital

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital is organizing an effort to share positive messages and lift the spirits of patients and healthcare workers. They are asking for children/students to create a sign, drawing or positive message that will be hung in patients' rooms or the hallways of Melrose/Wakefield Hospital. If your family is interested in participating, all messages should be on standard size computer paper and will be laminated by the organizers before entering the hospital for easy cleaning. You can drop your message off in a no contact manner, to the attention of Hillary Mahoney, who will have a bin for collecting messages outside of her house at 6 Strathmore Rd. Wakefield. Thank you for your support!

Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week

You may have already seen the post on the Greenwood School Gator Community Facebook page, but this week is a time to recognize our fabulous Greenwood teachers and staff for all their amazing work!  There will be a new thread started on the FB page each day so that families can share what they came up with to show their appreciation! Here is an overview of the week, in case you’d like to plan ahead:

  • Musical Monday: Write a song or make up a dance to show your appreciation to your teachers.

  • Teaching Tuesday: What is your favorite thing that one of your teachers has taught you?

  • Watercolor Wednesday: Get out your art supplies and draw a special picture for the teachers and staff at Greenwood.

  • Thankful Thursday: Write a poem or a letter to your teacher letting them know how thankful you are for them.

  • Fortunate Friday: We are so fortunate for our Greenwood Community. Create a 10 second video to just say hi to your teachers, staff, and the rest of the community and tell them how much you miss them.

You can post to the PTO Facebook page/Gator FB group or email your pictures to Ms. Back for sharing on the Greenwood Instagram & Facebook accounts.  Everyone will be thrilled to see them (and you)! The PTO will then compile all photos and videos from the week into a Google album and slideshow.
