UPDATE: Gator Gallop 5K and Kids’ Fun Run/Pledge Drive

We have made the necessary decision to officially cancel this year’s 7th annual Gator Gallop 5K, which was to be held on April 4th. We are looking ahead to next year’s event, which is tentatively scheduled for April 10, 2021. We are in the process of reaching out to all of our sponsors and registered runners to offer refunds or deferment to next year’s Gallop. However, in an effort to provide an opportunity for our students, especially this year’s 4th graders, to have their Gator Gallop experience, we will still be holding our Student Pledge Drive and Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run — virtually, of course—on May 30th! See below for all of the details.

The “Virtual Gator Gallop Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run” will be held on Saturday, May 30th.

Kids can either walk/run a mile with their families, run laps around the yard, whatever works for you! Please try to wear a Greenwood shirt and take a picture to share on Facebook or through email! Please fill out this form to let us know that your child is participating in the Pledge Drive and Virtual Fun Run so we can track their pledges.

The week of May 26-29th, leading up to the Virtual Fun Run will be Virtual Field Day Week, with fun warmups and exercises to do at home! More info about this will be shared soon.

The Greenwood Student Pledge Drive and Contest will continue until May 20th.

Students can continue to seek pledges as online donations or checks/cash. Students can still earn incentives and win prizes through the Pledge Drive Contest, with some minor adjustments. As a reminder, 90% of the money students raise will go to the Greenwood School, to support innovative programming, cultural arts enrichment, and student events throughout the year; 10% will go to the Wakefield Educational Foundation.

Turn in/mail pledge cash & checks by May 20th.

There are three options for turning in cash/check pledges received by May 20th:
1. If your child has received cash pledges you can make one consolidated online payment through PayPal.
2. Mail pledge cash/checks to Laura Hubert — 11 Babson Street, Wakefield.
3. Pledge Drop-off (with social distancing) at the Greenwood School on May 20th from 4-5 pm — in the back parking lot.
If mailing or dropping off, please make sure to include your student’s name and grade with the money! We will send parents an email receipt for every online, cash, or check payment received.

Incentives

We encourage all students to raise the  minimum of $10 to participate in the Virtual Kids’ Fun Run.

All students who raise….

  • $25…. earn a Virtual Gator Gallop Fun Run commemorative t-shirt (cotton t-shirt)

  • $75…. earn a free ice cream at Kennedy’s Ice Cream Bar (a huge thank you to Kennedy’s for continuing to generously support us at this time!)

Additionally, students who raise...

  • $125... earn a Greenwood drawstring bag

  • $175... earn a Wakefield Warriors 1/4 zip sweatshirt

  • $225... earn BOTH the bag and sweatshirt

*Please note that we are omitting the 5K entries from the earned incentives. However, we will honor 5K entries earned by current 4th graders for next year’s race (minimum of $30 raised). If you have specific questions about your child’s pledge earnings or race entries, or would like to request a refund, please contact us at ptoboard@greenwoodpto.org.

**Incentives will be distributed when it is safe and appropriate to do so. We have not yet determined if they will be mailed, dropped off, or picked up.

Pledge Contest Prizes (will be honored in the fall)

  • The CLASS with the highest participation in the virtual Fun Run (as determined by pledge drive and/or pictures submitted) will win the Wash a Fire Truck Prize!

  • Top Two Families with the most money raised will win the Ride to School in a Police Cruiser or on a Fire Truck!

  • Top Two Individual Students with the most money raised will win Principal for a Day or P.E. Teacher for a Day

***All prizes will be honored in the fall. In the event that a current 4th grader wins a prize we will have a substitution option available. In the event that a 4th grade class wins the class prize, it will go to the class with the second-highest participation.

Thank you to everyone for your flexibility and understanding. We have tried to consider all factors and perspectives in making these decisions. This post will be updated with additional info in the next few weeks. Please reach out to the PTO with any questions: ptoboard@greenwoodpto.org
