Dear Greenwood Families,
I hope you had a chance over the weekend to do something fun and/or relaxing. Personally, I’m choosing to not dwell upon the mix of snow and rain that cleverly waited until I was about a mile and a half into my run on Saturday morning and focus on the 70-degree temperatures that I spotted somewhere in the 10-day forecast! May is always such an unpredictable weather month, so we’ll see what it brings this year.
Teacher Appreciation Week—Many Thanks!
Friday was an emotional day around Greenwood, as we were the district “test site” for implementing a process to safely allow staff members back into the building to gather materials needed for remote learning. With the exception of the two days right after the closure when people were allowed to enter the building to collect personal materials, this was the first time the building had been opened to anyone but custodial staff and administration since March 18th. For our Greenwood staff to be able to come back to colorful chalked messages, posters of thanks hanging from the outdoor stairway railings, and gift bags of delicious treats stacked around the flagpole was more wonderful than I can possibly convey. You could see the big smiles, even through the masks! Thank you for everything you do to support us—Greenwood is a great place to be!
Class Placement Survey Reminder
Last Monday, K-3 families received information about an opportunity to provide feedback to be considered for our class placement process via School Messenger. This is completely optional, but if you would like to respond and have not done so yet, here is the placement information letter and optional parent questionnaire. ABC Countdown
When we get to the final 26 days of the school year, there is a tradition in Greenwood classrooms to do the “ABC Countdown.” Each day has a theme, activity, or challenge that corresponds with a letter of the alphabet, and we work our way from A to Z. Be on the lookout for more information coming to you from classroom teachers, and I will also announce each day’s theme during my morning video. We’d love to see your pictures and/or videos each day! The first day of the ABC Countdown is Tuesday, May 12th, and as a preview, this is our “A Theme”: “ANNOUNCING our ALL ABOARD countdown to summer…What summer ACTIVITIES do you hope to ACCOMPLISH?”
Weekly Theme
This week, along with the ABC Countdown daily theme, I will turn my sights to science and share an interesting “science fact of the day.” I’m looking forward to learning some new things myself!
