From the Principal: 5/18/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

I think about our Greenwood community a lot, but I was specifically thinking about our Greenwood community on Sunday morning while I was out running.  For the past 10 years, I’ve participated in the Harpoon 5-Miler, which benefits the Angel Fund for ALS research.  Obviously, the race had to go virtual this year, so I pinned on my race bib and did my 5 miles bright and early on Sunday morning. While it wasn’t the same “race day experience” I’ve had in the past, I still knew that I was doing my part to support a cause that matters to me.  Naturally, the Greenwood connection comes with the Gator Gallop!  The Pledge Drive is still on through May 20th, and the Virtual Kids' 1-Mile Fun Run will be happening on May 30th.  I hope that many of our Greenwood Gators will participate and support our wonderful school community!

4th Grade Families — Galvin Grade 5 Presentation

About a week and a half ago, Galvin Principal Adam Colantuoni sent out a video message to 4th grade families about the transition to 5th grade.  He is concerned that there are families that did not receive the message, so he asked the elementary school principals to share a link to the 5th Grade Slideshow Presentation.  There is a lot of helpful information inside!

 Memorial Day—Monday, May 25th

Whether you already assumed this to be true or haven’t even been thinking ahead that far, next Monday, May 25th, is the Memorial Day holiday.  All Wakefield Public Schools staff members will be “offline” that day.

Student Belongings

I’ve had a couple of families reach out with questions about retrieving student belongings out of classrooms and desks.  While we don’t have finalized details at this point, principals and district administrators are working on a plan for safely getting children's belongings out of the school buildings and back into the hands of families.  We're probably looking at early June for that to happen, and we will share information with you as soon as we have it.  We definitely want to make sure kids get their stuff back!

Weekly Theme

I’ll continue to share the ABC Countdown daily activity/theme during my morning message.  Keep on sending me those wonderful pictures to re-post!
