From the Principal: 6/1/20

Dear Greenwood Families,

It is hard to believe that we are now entering the month of June and looking toward the final weeks of this most unusual school year!  While June events will continue to look very different from “how we usually do it,” please know that just as we have all been working hard over the past months to continue a sense of connection and engagement with all of our Gators, we are all thinking hard about ways we can recognize the end of the school year, both as individual classrooms and as a whole-school community.  We always want to celebrate the fact that Greenwood is a great place to be, even when we have to be virtual!

WEF Virtual Celebration of Learning

Before the school closures, the Wakefield Educational Foundation had already started to plan their big celebration to honor members of the Wakefield Public Schools community who embody this year’s theme of “Making a Difference.”  We so appreciate all that WEF does to support WPS and were excited to hear that they would still recognize our 4th grade student nominees virtually through this video presentation.  Congratulations to the following Greenwood students who were nominated by their peers as those who best represent our school’s core values: Adrianna Chesna, Joseph Cruz, Matthew Doto, and Laurel Renzi!

Update About Student Belongings

Later this week, I will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius to schedule family pick-up times for student personal belongings that were left in classrooms when we initially closed down in mid-March.  The pick-up days will be during the week of June 8th (specific days/times TBD) and will all take place outside the school building.  Much more information to come later this week!

A Message from Mr. Hennessey—Wakefield's Virtual Field Day

A big thank you to the PTO for a great week of Field Day activities leading up to the virtual Gator Gallop. In case you haven't heard yet, we still have one more Field Day this year! On Friday June 12th, there will be a town-wide Field Day for all four of Wakefield's elementary schools. You can read more about it from Mr. Hennessey and the other PE teachers here, and check out this list to see what you will need for the Field Day events next week.

Food Rescue Program Update

We wanted to provide some final numbers (through the end of February 2020) for the Greenwood Food Rescue program.  Greenwood was able to donate more than 2600 wholesome food items to families in need, which also kept those items from going straight from our cafeteria into landfill.  A more detailed breakdown of items collected can be found at this link.  We look forward to continuing this important work during the next school year.  Thank you to Shyan Ong for spearheading this program and to everyone who made it possible!

Weekly Theme

I’ll continue to share the ABC Countdown daily activity/theme during my morning message.  Keep on sending me those wonderful pictures to re-post!

Greenwood Instagram & Facebook Account

Just another reminder about following the Greenwood School Instagram and/or Facebook accounts (@wpsgreenwood) to see the daily videos!

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning—let’s have a great week!  And as always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need support.

Take care,

Tiffany
