From the Principal: 5/31/22

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Tuesday!  I hope that everyone was able to enjoy time together over the weekend.  Whether you were spending time at parades and observances for Memorial Day, gathering for cookouts with family and friends, or taking a quick trip to points north or south for beach time, you can never understate the importance of taking time for each other.  On another note, it hardly seems possible that we’re looking at 18 school days left in the school year…but it’s true!

Safety Updates

The horrific event that took place in Texas last week challenged (and will continue to challenge) everyone in different ways.  As mentioned in the WPS updates from last week, our immediate priority was to make sure students feel safe and supported in school.  District and School Crisis/Safety teams have also been reconvening to examine our current practices, procedures, and current needs for areas of improvement.  We will continue to keep you updated - please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.

WMHS Elementary School Walk

This Friday, June 3rd will feature some special visitors here at Greenwood!  After their graduation rehearsal on Friday, seniors will be returning to their elementary schools to walk the halls one more time.  Greenwood is excited to welcome back our Gators and cheer them on as they head toward their next steps!

Health Reminder - Updated 5/22/22

We are still seeing an uptick in COVID cases throughout the district, and while most people seem to be experiencing mild symptoms, it is so important for everyone to maintain vigilance in order to keep school operating as smoothly as possible.  While masking remains optional, we have noticed an increase in families choosing to do so during the school day.  Please know that masking is always encouraged and supported as a mitigation strategy.  As always, you should keep children home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever of 100.0 or higher, chills, or shaking chills

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Muscle aches or body aches

  • Cough (not due to other known cause such as chronic cough, asthma, allergies)

  • Sore throat, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Headache, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms

If a positive case of COVID is identified in your child’s classroom, you will receive a letter via School Messenger to let you know.  Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
