From the Principal: 6/14/21

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday, and welcome to my final letter for the 2020-2021 school year!  I’m not even sure what to say that hasn’t already been said at some point during this unusual and challenging year.  Students, staff, and families have had to be flexible, patient, trusting, persistent, and resilient...not necessarily in that order and sometimes all of it together! That being said, Greenwood did what Greenwood does best: coming together as a community and supporting each other through good times and tough times.  As we enter these last five school days, I wish everyone a summer full of fun, relaxation, and good times!

4th Grade Moving On - postponed!

There are notifications coming from all corners about this, but ICYMI...due to the iffy weather forecast for Monday, we are moving the Moving On ceremony to the rain date of Tuesday.  There is a change in time - certificates will be handed out starting at 9:00am.  4th grade families should have received more detailed information - please reach out if you have not!

Staffing Updates

While we will have a few changes when we return to school in the fall, many involve the return of familiar faces!  Kim Morse will be returning as a 1st grade classroom teacher, and Lisa Koplik will be back in her 4th grade teacher position at Greenwood.  Corine Keyes, who skillfully stepped into a 1st grade teaching role this year,  will remain with us here at Greenwood and return to her role as a paraprofessional. While we will need to say “goodbye” to Julia Puccio at this time, we know that her next school will be lucky to have her as part of their teaching staff. We wish her well!

Teacher Assignments

Over the next week, teachers will be going into classrooms to meet students who will be moving into their grade level. (1st grade teachers will meet Kindergarten students, 2nd grade teachers will meet 1st grade students, etc.) This will be an opportunity for the kids to hear a little bit about what they can look forward to for the next school year and meet the teachers. We will not be sharing teacher assignments/class placement on the last day of school - that information will be sent out to families mid-August.  This switch by all four elementary schools allows us the flexibility to re-balance classrooms over the summer as we receive new enrollments and/or families move out of the district.

Beebe Library Book Links

Because they were not able to visit our Greenwood classrooms, the Beebe librarians created “Book Talk Videos” for each grade level’s summer reading.  Teachers will be showing those videos in class next week (if they haven’t already!).  The Beebe librarians also wanted to share this year’s suggested summer reading lists with families. Some of you have been waiting for these!
