Health Notice: Head Lice

Health Notice: Head Lice

To date, there have been a few reported cases of head lice at schools across the district.   Per the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), NASN (National Association of School Nurses), AAP (The American Academy of Pediatrics) and the MDPH (Massachusetts Department of Public Health), no nit policies are no longer advised.  It is also their position that classroom checks should not be done because of the stigma, embarrassment and a student’s right to confidentiality.

Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend. The first annual PTO meeting will take place Tuesday evening October 11th at 7 PM. in the Greenwood library. This is a great way to meet other families and learn how the PTO helps to enrich our students’ learning experience at the Greenwood School.  I hope to see many of you there.

As the weather begins to turn cooler it is important that children come to school dressed appropriately for the season with coats and jackets as we go out most days for recess. Students are always disappointed if they are unable to go outside when they are not dressed for a cold day.  Thank you for your assistance with this request.

A reminder that school picture day will be this Thursday October 13th. Have a great week!

Regards,
Deb Collura

From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all the families who have returned the paper work from the first day of school packets and to those who have registered in iPartent. You can reach the parent portal from the WPS web site http://wakefieldpublicschools.org/WPS/. Be sure to keep the school updated when you change your phone number or your email address.  It is important that we have current information on the primary contact for students should your child become ill.  We also rely on email as a means of communication for upcoming events.

A friendly reminder, we do not allow children to be dropped off at the playground prior to 8:30 AM as we have no adult supervision until 8:30 AM We also ask that parents stand behind the basketball net during our opening exercises and at dismissal in the afternoon. This allows the staff members on duty to closely monitor the children. When we have parents stand behind the lines children want to wander out of line and talk with parents and siblings and we have also had students without parents there think they can wander off toward the adults. For obvious safety reasons we kindly ask you to cooperate with this request.

When parking your car please be mindful that there is no parking in the staff parking lot at the front or back of the school.  Parents must use street parking. There are students walking to and from these areas and it is unsafe to have moving vehicles during school hours. I kindly ask that all families be mindful of the two designated handicap parking spaces available at our school one at the front of the building and one at the rear.  These spaces are used by our families and unless you have a handicap placard you should not park in these designated areas.  This includes parents dropping off and picking up at Wakefield Academy.

Parents please try and label all your children’s clothes, lunch boxes and water bottles so that we may quickly return them versus having to pile things into our lost and found bin. Thank you for your assistance with this request.

As always, I can be reached via email at Deborah.collura@wpsk12.org anytime or by phone. Have a wonderful week.

Regards,
Deb Collura
