From the Principal: Feb 4

Dear Greenwood Families,

The challenge with writing my letter to you on Friday for Monday’s Gator Tales is particularly evident this week. Did the groundhog see its shadow on Saturday? Did the Patriots do their job on Sunday? Is the temperature REALLY going to be in the 50s on Monday? I can only wonder and guess! So for now, I’ll stick with what I do know...

Report Cards

Report cards will be viewable by families on iParent on Monday, February 4th. Directions on how to access your child’s report card can be found here. Please note that the report card standards are for the whole school year, and that a standard on the report card that has not been formally assessed at this point in the year may show as N/A (not applicable). Let the office know if you are having difficulty getting to the report card - if you have other questions, reach out to your child’s teacher. We’re all working together to help kids learn and grow!

“Global School Play Day”

In 2015, a group of educators started a grassroots movement to find opportunities to incorporate time for unstructured play for kids. Each year, on the first Wednesday of February, participating classrooms and schools purposefully set aside some time for students to interact with each other through play. Greenwood is going to join in on the fun! Individual classrooms will determine their schedules, but the one thing that will look the same for all classes is NO SCREENS during that time. Ask your children on Wednesday afternoon how it went!

Mindfulness in the Classroom

You may recall hearing about the grant Greenwood received from the Wakefield Educational Foundation for “Mindfulness in the Classroom.” We have now started the classroom visits and activities with our facilitator, Tracy Affonso. Tracy taught elementary school for 10+ years before becoming a full-time yoga and mindfulness instructor. She visited all Greenwood classrooms on 1/22 and 1/23, and she will be back for her second round of visits on 2/5 and 2/8. Ask your kids about the different breathing techniques they learned, like sphere breathing and dragon breath!

WEF Adult Spelling Bee

The Wakefield Educational Foundation is looking for adults to participate in a team-based spelling bee on Friday, March 1. The Spelling Bee starts at 7:30pm and will be held at the Wakefield Elks Lodge. The cost is $25 per individual - you can sign up as part of a team (6-10 members) or register as an individual and be placed on a team. It should be a fun evening that raises money for great programs in our schools (see “Mindfulness in the Classroom” above!).

Thank you for everything you do to support your children and their learning!
