From the Principal: 5/2/22

Dear Greenwood Families,

Happy Monday!  I’m not sure how many times is too many to start my message with “I can’t believe it’s already <insert name of month here>”...but I really mean it this time!  The school year continues to fly by, although we still have a lot of learning and fun ahead of us before wrapping up for the summer.  If you didn’t already know, the first week of May is National Teacher Appreciation Week, which we use as a time to celebrate ALL of the wonderful educators and staff members who make Greenwood a great place to be for children and adults alike.  Be sure and take a moment to let the people who work with your children know how much they are appreciated!

MA Safe Routes to School Event

Massachusetts Walk, Bike, and Roll to school day is Wednesday, May 4th!  Many of our Greenwood families already travel to school via safe, active commutes, and this is a day when everyone in the Commonwealth is encouraged to do so as well.  Wakefield police officers will be on site at each of the schools to welcome all our walkers, bikers, and rollers that morning, and we’ll have stickers, bookmarks, and music to greet everyone at arrival.  Looking forward to another fun arrival activity!

MCAS - Grades 3 & 4

On Monday, May 23rd and Tuesday, May 24th, our Greenwood 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the Math MCAS.  Sessions will begin right at the start of the school day, and while students are given as much time as they need to finish, the recommended session time is 90 minutes per session.  If you have a known conflict with these dates or a general question about testing, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Last Day of School

It’s easy to lose track of the “official” last day of school when snow days are a factor!  Now that we’ve put winter behind us, we can actually pinpoint the proper date.

  • The last day of school for Kindergarten will be Wednesday, June 22nd.  This will be an early release day for Kindergarten only.  Screening for our incoming Kindergarten students will be happening on Thursday, June 23rd.

  • The last day of school for Grades 1-4 will be Friday, June 24th.  This will be an early release day for all grades.

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms

Our school nurse, Mrs. Doherty, is always happy to answer any questions you may have or provide clarification.
